Recent News: May 2011 – ANIM receives instruments from MusAid
From Dr. Sarmast, the director of ANIM:
“On behalf of the staff and students of the Afghanistan National Institute of Music (ANIM), The Ministry of Education, music loving people of Afghanistan and myself thank you for your wonderful job in assisting ANIM to obtain the musical instruments we requested. It is very kind that you have given us such a precious gift. Thank you for doing your part to imbue our world with beauty of music.”
Founded in 2010 by Dr. Ahmad Sarmast, Afghanistan’s National Institute of Music is the first and finest institution for the education and nurturing of gifted young Afghan musicians. Integral to their music program is a high quality academic education ensuring that our students are able to achieve at the highest level internationally as musicians, music educators, academics and specialists.
The first music school within the Afghanistan Ministry of Education was established in 1973. This school continued its activity operated until 1992, at which point civil war consumed Afghanistan. In 2001, the music department re-opened with a lot of limitations and hardships: no rehearsing rooms, trained music teachers, or musical instruments. In 2006, Dr. Ahmad Sarmast, initiated the Revival of Afghan Music (ROAM) project. ROAM offers a comprehensive approach to rebuilding various aspects of the musical life of Afghanistan including the the establishment of a dedicated vocational music education entity.
The national institute of music is committed to providing a dynamic, challenging and safe learning environment for all students regardless of gender, ethnicity or social circumstances. We also have a special focus on supporting the most disadvantaged group in Afghan society – the orphans and street working kids – to help them attain a vocation that will allow them to reach their full potential, while contributing to their emotional healing. Through the provision of an internationally-accredited curriculum our graduates will have the skills, creative vision and confidence to contribute to the artistic, social and cultural life of Afghanistan, and the rebuilding and revival of Afghan music traditions. Afghanistan’s National Institute of Music will be the model for future music schools and colleges to be built throughout Afghanistan.

Needs:
Flute: 5 Clarinet: 8 Oboe: 2 Bassoon: 3 Trumpet: 3 Trombone: 1 French Horn: 3 Cellos: 3
Other: Drum kit with stool, A large xylophone and adjustable piano stools.
Needed accessories: Any accessories for instruments would be welcomed. However, the school is in desperate need of tuners, metronomes, and foldable music stands. Because of a lack of space, many of the students practice outside year-round, and having a stand would incourage proper posture and good habits. Woodwind reeds are in desperate need as well.
